Design Tip: full bleed image cover, full impact

Everybody loves design dream album with full bleed IMAGE cover design. We are getting so much inquiries... and we love to share some of our trick how to design fabulous DREAM cover! something like below: is done by Dana Pugh (short and sweet photography). Her image was just so perfect for the cover and inside image.

However, more often we DO have our favorite images that are not quite perfect for PANORAMIC cover design. So here is what we did for Cindy Chen's awesome image. First, we layout cover template and the image to see what we want...

and bring the image into the template file. make sure your guide lines are turned on. there is an excellent guideline instrucion at http://thedreamalbum.squarespace.com/blog-home/2008/10/28/cover-design-instruction.html  and arrange the image accordingly. we eneded up having the huge empty area on the back cover. we can add some cool pattern there, but we still like a full impact by full bleed image cover. so we just made a copy of current layer by Ctrl+J or Command+J and put both layers side by side.

and flip over the back image to match the edge of the image to look like COUNTINUING~~~ and of course we want to clean up a little with clone tool... to polish~~~

we can even change the concrete floor to look more real, but we will just stop here. it looks COOL enough.. right?

so the cover will look just like that when it is made into album. you can add your logo in the back somewhere. Guess what? we will show you when this album is made..

Again, thanks so much for letting us using your image Cindy! We love it!!!

and here is the final product shot of when it is made. Amazing!!!!! We love it even more!!!

I love the look of full bleed images on the cover and loved this horizontal image but didn't think it would work. Thank you so so much dream album for creating this awesome little tutorial to show us how to make it work. :) You rock!
